Dr William Powell

William started in the profession back in 2016 and joined Forresters in 2024. William's day to day work consists of patent drafting and patent prosecution. He is experienced in prosecution before the UK and European Patent Offices, as well as handling prosecution of patent applications in other jurisdictions including the US, Japan and China.

William has experience in drafting and prosecuting applications for large corporate clients spanning a range of technical fields. He has years of experience working directly with a major consumer electronics company to draft and prosecute applications in the entertainment sector, with particular expertise in the computer game sector.

William specialises in physics, computing and electronics-related patent work. He is particularly active in the fields of consumer electronics, video games, image processing, virtual reality (VR) technologies, software, computer hardware and artificial intelligence (AI).

He works with clients of all sizes, from start-up companies and individual inventors to multi-national companies.

Prior to entering the IP profession, he completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool, where his research focussed on developing charged particle tracking detectors and application-specific integrated circuits for nuclear physics experiments.

As part of his PhD studies, William lived in Japan for a year whilst working at a heavy-ion research facility. Outside of work, he is a keen cyclist and also enjoys walks in the countryside.
