Callum Watson
Trainee Patent Attorney
Callum joined the team at Forresters in September 2021 and is currently working towards his qualification as a UK and European Patent Attorney.
Callum has worked on the prosecution of UK and European patent applications, as well as working with overseas agents to obtain protection for clients in other countries, across a wide range of technology from pet bowls to interactive children’s toys. He has also completed several IP audits for clients to help identify their intellectual property and advise how they can protect and utilise it effectively.
Prior to his career in IP, Callum was a mechanical design engineer in the additive manufacturing sector and also worked in the renewable energy sector. He remains interested in these technical areas, however, he is also able to utilise the skills he developed throughout his mechanical engineering studies and work with a variety of industries, including nanotechnology, automotive, aerospace and more.
He works with a wide range of clients, from individual inventors to multinational companies. Callum particularly enjoys working with small-scale start-up companies and individuals, helping them to grow and nurture a new idea they are passionate about.
He graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. His final year project involved investigating novel ways to utilise the principles of origami to improve the design of medical devices.
Outside of work, Callum enjoys spending time with his family, going for walks and baking. He also plays hockey for his local club, and likes to go running when he finds the time!
