Forresters filed 39% more European patent applications in 2023 than the previous year – one of the largest percentage increases of UK-based firms.
According to data released by IP Pilot, our firm filed 969 European patent applications in 2023, compared to 782 European patent applications in 2022. This increase shows that Forresters is a trusted European firm with significant expertise in prosecution before the European Patent Office. A large percentage of this increase related to the mechanical and electrical engineering fields, with particular gains in relation to machine tools, electrical machinery, apparatus and energy.
We also handled significant numbers of applications in the life sciences, chemistry and medical devices fields, with applications in these technical areas making up over half of total filings in 2023.
The increase in patent filings by Forresters was well-received by Managing Partner Matt Shaw, who said:
